Samsung Unveils Galaxy S5 and Gear Fit During its ‘Unpacked’ Event in Barcelona

This afternoon Samsung unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at an ‘Unpacked’ event held at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The design of the Galaxy S5 is almost identical to that of the S4, retaining the metal-looking plastic around the sides, but changing the back to a dimpled soft-touch finish. The S5’s display is a slightly larger at 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display.

Sony Announced Xperia Z2, M2, and Z2 Tablet at MWC

Today at MWC in Barcelona, Sony announced three new products: the Xperia Z2 and M2 smartphones, and the Xperia Z2 tablet.

The Z2 smartphone is the company's latest flagship device featuring a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) Triluminos display, Qualcomm's new 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801, which offers faster clock speeds than the 800, 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat, 16GB of internal storage (with expandable microSD card support), a 3,200 mAh batter, and the same 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS camera found in the Z1 (although there's 4K recording support tucked away), opting for a slightly improved 2.2-megapixel shooter on the front. The Z2 is also IP58 waterproof certified. The X2 is set to launch globally in March.

Nokia Unveils X, X+ and XL Android-based Smartphones

Today, Nokia unveiled its Nokia X line of Android smartphones. The news comes ahead of Microsoft closing the deal to acquire Nokia, but that didn't stop the Finnish phones maker from releasing three Android-based handsets.

The company showed off the X, X+ and XL, and as expected the three combine Lumia-style design with low-cost hardware. The XL has a large 5-inch display and will be priced 109-Euro, the X+ and X have a smaller 4-inch display and will retail for 99-Euro and 89-Euro respectively. 

Google and LG Working on a Smartwatch, Could be Unveiled at Google I/O

Google and LG have reportedly partnered to make a smartwatch, which is set to be unveiled at Google I/O in June, according to a tweet from @evleaks.

According to a person familiar with the plans, Google plans to announce its smartwatch operating system in March, likely through a blog post. Rumours suggest a Nexus-like approach to the design of the smartwatch. 

Samsung Unveils Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo Smartwatches, Ditch Android for Tizen

Just six months after the release of the Galaxy Gear, Samsung has unveiled two new smartwatches: the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. The announcement comes from Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, just one day before their Galaxy S5 event.

The biggest change in the new smartwatch lineup is the Korean company has ditched Android for Tizen, a platform being developed by Samsung. 

The two new smartwatches are equipped with a 1.63-inch 320 x 320-pixel Super AMOLED displays, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 1GHz dual-core processor. The only difference between the two devices is the Gear 2 sports a 2-megapixel camera located on the body of the watch, while the Gear 2 Neo does not.

Details About Apple’s iOS SSL Patch in Update 7.0.6, OS X is Still Vulnerable

If you have an iOS device, Apple has an important security patch waiting for you. Yesterday, Apple released iOS 7.0.6, which aims to provide a fix for SSL connection verification.

According to the company’s security notes, the previous version of iOS was missing important secure socket layers (SSL) verification steps. The major security flaw allowed hackers to intercept email and communications that are supposed to be encrypted.

Assuming the attacker had access to the same network as the mobile or desktop user, they could view and change any traffic between the user and any protected website, like Facebook or Gmail.
