LG G Watch Review

Just over a month ago at their Google I/O Developers Conference, Google announced three Android Wear devices that would go on sale this summer. Both the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live went on sale at the beginning of July, but the Moto 360 will launch later this summer.

The LG G Watch has a 1.65-inch display and weighs 63 grams and comes in at 37.9mm x 46.5mm x 9.95mm. The smartwatch is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 400mAh battery.

The smartwatch is running Android Wear and will work with any Android smartphone that is running Android 4.3 or later. The connection between the watch and the smartphone uses Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, making it fairly power efficient.

Swift: An Overview of Apple's New Programming Language.

Apple unveiled a new programming language, called Swift, to its developers during its opening keynote at WWDC. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, introduced the language as “Objective-C without the C”.

Let me explain what he means. Swift has been designed by Apple to be a safe programming language, eliminating entire classes of unsafe code. For example, arrays and integers are checked for overflow and memory is managed automatically.

Swift has been designed to use Apple’s high performance LLVM (Low Level Virtual Machine) compiler, allowing your apps to take full advantage of the device’s hardware. Since Swift uses the LLVM compiler, developers can write apps that use Swift, Objective-C, and C within the same app. The new language from Apple also gains all of the best features from Objective-C and C.

Apple Acquires Beats Electronics For $3 Billion

Today Apple announced that it has acquired Beats Music and Electronics for $3 billion. Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are set to join Apple and they will be reporting to Eddy Cue.

Here is a snippet from Tim Cook's interview with Re/code during their first annual Code Conference:

"Peter Kafka: This is such an unusual deal for Apple. Why did you make it?

Tim Cook: This is all about music, and we’ve always viewed that music was key to society and culture. Music’s always been at the heart of Apple. It’s deep in our DNA. We’ve sold Macs to musicians since the beginning of Macs. And we accelerated the music industry with the digital music revolution with the iPod and the iTunes music store."

Google Testing New Design For Web-Based Gmail

According to a report from Geek.com, Google has invited a select number of users to test a new version of their webmail client, Gmail. The test version of Gmail may never be released, but the new design looks like a simplified mobile app which has been stretched out.

Just like on Android, you should be able to tell Google to let you know about a date in the future or to respond to a certain email.

The first item on Microsoft's announcement checklist was Windows Phone 8.1. The operating system update is set to launch in the next coming months and brings a number of new features, including a notification drop-down menu called Action Center.

Windows Phone users will receive the ability to use a customizable lock screen and they will get an update to the Windows Store, which will make it easier for users to find the apps they want. The update also brings a new calendar design and "Shape Writing," the ability to swipe instead of typing, similar to the feature on Android.
