Google Releases Android Wear, An Operating System for Smartwatches

In a blog post today Google's SVP of Android announced Android Wear, an operating system designed for wearable devices like smartwatches.

The search giant released a developer preview so that developers can start making great apps for wearable devices. Developers must sign up to gain access to the preview.

A full SDK is expected to be released later this year along with the first devices to use Android Wear. The first devices expected to launch are reportedly from LG and Motorola.

If you’re a developer, check out developer.android.com/wear to download a Developer Preview so you can tailor your existing app notifications for watches powered by Android Wear.
