iPad Leads U.S. Tablet Sales, Chromebooks Overtake MacBooks

The iPad, just updated in October 2013, has held the biggest share of sales for any tablet in the U.S. during 2013. Google's Chromebooks have gained tremendous ground over the last year, with sales numbers increasing over 900% year-over-year. The reports come from The NDP Group.

In the graph above we can see that Chromebooks, Android tablets, and Windows tablets have made the biggest improvement in the last year. Google's Chromebooks now have a higher percentage of the market than Apple does with its MacBook lineup. The whole Mac lineup has been updated this year, with the exception of the Mac Mini.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple may be planning to release a 12-inch MacBook with an all-new design in the middle of 2014. We don't know what Apple's plans are but in a statement from Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, said "We have some exciting products lined up for 2014."
